Administrative Assistant, Department of Accounting, Business, and Finance

The Department of Accounting, Business, and Finance at Wofford College invites applications for an Administrative Assistant. Reporting to and working directly for the Chair of the Department, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for managing, administering, and assisting with much of the Department’s administrative, operational, and functional needs. Flexibility and performing key responsibilities to address Department, faculty and student/visitor needs timely is essential for success in this position.

This is a full-time position (preferably 9-months from September to May) located in the Olin Building (Olin 107) and the normal work schedule is 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Hours of work performance on a weekly basis is minimally 40 hours.


  • Office Administration Services - As the primary and first point of contact, the Administrative Assistant is customer service oriented and creates and maintains a professional office environment to assist students, faculty, and visitors.
  • Accounting, Business, and Finance Department Secretary - Under the general guidance of the Department Chair, the Administrative Assistant serves as the Academic Department Secretary and attends all department meetings and takes minutes and distributes minutes to all professors, assist faculty as needs arise, including proctoring classes and exams, completes expense reports for professors upon request, as well as plan departmental social events with faculty and students.
  • Office Operations and Function – Under the general guidance from the Department Chair, manage, administer, and maintain key Department operational needs and requirements. Operational needs include SACS support, James Fund administration and support, academic functional activities (advising policies, major, minor declarations, academic contact lists, website support, etc.)

The Administrative Assist works independently under general supervision and must possess excellent communication (writing, editing, speaking, and listening) skills to effectively carry out the key responsibilities of this position. S/he will be experienced in the use of hardware and software technology, including office equipment (copier, scanner, fax, etc.). Preference will be provided for candidates with related experience in higher education, proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and Outlook) in addition to familiarity with elements of web design, including HTML.

This position works with confidential information and will be subject to the Colleges’ confidentiality policy. Multi-tasking along with prioritizing tasks/workload to meet timely deadlines is expected in this role.
